The Best Landing Net Combo for Carp?
The Best Landing Net Combo for Carp?
Match fishing on commercials today, especially on carp oriented venues, is all about speed, and every few seconds that can be saved during its duration simply means more fish in the net and the difference between winning and coming absolutely nowhere.
One area of concern has to be landing fish as when you finally get a carp under control and it surfaces you need to get that net under it ultra quick. If the handle is too short or heavy this can be a serious problem. Once in the net comes another time consuming problem as if the mesh is too big then often is the case of your banded pellet getting caught within the mesh or worse still breaking.
Finding not just a landing net handle that is light and strong enough to solve this problem but also a net that’s big enough for sizable carp but also light as well as having a fine mesh can be difficult, or so you thought!
Take a look at the Hyper Carp XTR landing net handle and Black Magic Compact Pan net as if, what’s been mentioned before, is an irritating situation that you find yourself in then your problems have just been solved!
The XTR handle itself is long, 4m in fact and comes in three sections. It weighs an incredible 370g and isn’t just at home on carp commercials but also on running water, especially those with steep high banks, and as for its strength, rigidity and robustness, well its simply mind blowing. Moving this through the water is effortless, doesn’t bend even under the strain of a very big carp and when most handles would just break under the strain this handle simply makes light work of everything thrown at it which is all down to its reinforced spiral winding construction.
As for the Black Magic Compact Pan net, well it teams up with the XTR handle perfectly, not too big (L 44cm x W 38cm) but big enough to drop an oversized bonus carp in if needed. Another point I love is it’s not too deep, just 24cm, which means I can unhook each carp easily before lowering and releasing into the keepnet. As previously mentioned the mesh is soft, strong and fine, just 2mm, which eliminates those teething problems of caught up/broken hairs!
Having had this net for years I’ve certainly used and abused it and being robust, light and strong it’s withstood everything I’ve thrown at it as has the Hyper Carp XTR landing net handle.
If you want the best handle/net combination then you’ve just found it!

Xi-Match Landing Handle
Xi-Match Landing Handle
If you enjoy fishing for silvers, like I do, especially net skimmers and roach then netting them quickly and efficiently is vital. This becomes somewhat harder when there is a side wind or if fishing a canal or river where there’s some flow and if your landing net and handle are too heavy and big it can all become somewhat clumsy.
Speed fishing for silvers is all about getting every part of your equipment right and if you want to get the best out of every situation then you really do need to get your hands on the Xi-Match handle as it’s so light, long and strong. At full length this 3 piece handle stretches to 4m and its ultra slim, yet still retains amazing rigidity and it only weighs 293g!
Other points to mention are the reinforced joints, anti-slip surface at the base of the handle and joint protectors which all contribute to making this the best ever silver fish handle I’ve ever used and team it up with a Silverlite Ghost net and you have a winning combination.
John Pantrey

The thin diameter and stiffness of this 4m handle makes it very easy to move through the water.

The joints are reinforced for extra strength.
Black Magic Compact Pan
Black Magic Compact Pan
What I love about the Black Magic Compact Pan net is it’s not too deep which means when I’m bagging bream, carp or F1’s they can be easily unhooked and transferred to the keepnet without having to bend over to far.
I’ve had this net for years and have certainly used and abused it and being robust, light and strong it’s withstood everything I’ve thrown at it. It’s also the perfect secondary net when speed fishing for silvers and can be used on those occasions when a big carp barges in on the action. Made from soft fish friendly mesh the Black Magic Compact Pan is a great all-round net that withstand a lot of abuse and is even better when teamed up with the 4m Hyper Carp XTR Landing Net Handle.

The spreader block and frame are nice and strong.

A net that does everything I ask of it.
CK Competition Landing Nets
CK Competition Landing Nets
If you are looking for some great value landing nets then I can recommend the CK Competition Landing Nets.
These nets are the ideal size and depth for my fishing, be it for smaller F1’s or decent-sized carp. The depth is just right for unhooking a decent carp with the net between my legs where I can keep it under control.
The mesh is lovely and soft and has proved to be very hard-wearing. Two variants are available, a standard 8mm mesh, which moves through the water very easily, and a 2mm version that is ideal when hair-rigging.
There is not that you can say about a landing net, apart from these do the job really well and won’t break the bank. Check them out at your local Browning stockist.

Silverlite Ghost Net
Silverlite Ghost Net
The Silverlite Ghost Net is the ultimate silver fish net as it’s so light it can be easily moved not only to the fish even when using the longest landing net handles but also when the nets in the water due to the mesh being quite large.
The distinctive Ghost mesh is less likely to scare fish when speed fishing and another huge advantage of the 6x6mm mesh is it makes netting fish on a canal or river that much easier especially if there’s a flow or a strong crosswind.
The moulded spreader and frame are also lightweight but extremely rigid and strong so easily capable of being able to land a bonus fish if it comes along.
Available in two sizes –
Medium W40cm x H35cm x D25cm
Large W48cm x H28cm x D28cm
John Pantry

Silverlite Ghost Nets are available in two sizes, the medium is perfect for roach, whilst the large is ideal if bonus bream and big perch are on the cards.

The Ghost Mesh has a fine fish-friendly weave and is very light, making this net very easy to move through the water.

This is a great net for fish of all sizes. The 5mm x 5mm latex mesh is designed for maximum protection of the fish.

Hyper Carp XTR Extension
Match fishing on commercials today, especially on carp oriented venues, is all about speed. Every few seconds that can be saved during a match simply means more fish in the net. Possibly the difference between winning and coming absolutely nowhere. One very smart and useful addition to my landing net handle is the Hyper Carp XTR Extension.
This simply pushes onto my main Hyper Carp XTR Landing Net Handle. Not only making it that little bit longer but also making it easier to transfer big fish to my keepnets.
Just detach the extension and big fish can be easily lowered into the keep net with the minimum of fuss.

About the Hyper Carp XTR Handle
The Hyper Carp Landing Net Handle is sure to impress many anglers. The landing net handle has been designed for large fish but impresses so much with its incredible lightness, it is also bound to be used when bagging with small fish. In addition to its low weight, the landing net handle sets itself apart with fantastic rigidity. The handle does not bend, even with big heavy carp landing nets, and glides rapidly through the water. The Hyper Carp Landing Net Handle also proved extremely robust during testing. The reinforcing spiral winding allows manoeuvres that would quickly break standard landing net handles. At a length of 4 m, the handle is equally at home on rivers and stillwaters and is suitable for a wide range of uses.

The Hyper Carp Extension adds around 45cm to the length of my handle.

The Hyper Carp Extension simply goes over the end of my Hyper Carp XTR handle.

The Hyper Carp landing net handles are extremely strong and stiff, well up to handling big carp.

Hyper Carp XTR Landing Net Handle
A crucial part of landing big carp quickly is having a landing net that is up to the job. Not only does it have to be strong enough to scoop big carp constantly. It also needs to be stiff enough to enable precise manoeuvres. Even when using heavy carp nets. Over the last year I have been very impressed with the Hyper Carp XTR Landing Net Handle. Which has been more than up to the job of landing carp well into double figures easily.
This is an extremely stiff handle, enabling me to scoop carp quickly, often before they realise what is happening. Yet, unlike many stiff handles, it doesn’t feel delicate or brittle in any way. It has taken some serious abuse in its stride. I particularly like the reinforced wrap which gives extra reassurance that this handle is well up to the job.
If you fish a variety of different venues the 4m length and three piece design will come in very useful. Although it is not designed as a featherweight handle, it is perfect at full stretch, thanks to that rigidity.
The bull-nosed male joints are another nice feature. Along with the reinforced machined fitting they give maximum strength in all of the high-stress areas. There are even alignment markers that ensure the pole has maximum strength and rigidity when assembled.
Landing net poles have a tough, unsung life, but are absolutely crucial pieces of kit. If you are looking for a brilliant all-rounder then look no further than the Hyper Carp XTR landing net handle.

"Landing net poles have a tough, unsung life, but are absolutely crucial pieces of kit."

The Hyper Carp XTR handle is ideal for use with modern carp-friendly nets, which require a strong, stiff handle.

The end of the pole has been strengthened around the metal screen-thread and is tapered to accept a short ‘tipper’ section, which is available separately.

A brilliant piece of kit for the modern commercial fishery angler.
