On a cloudy, rainy day I visited a communal pool in Theillay en Sologne.

My plan was simple. To begin with I cupped in seven small balls of a combination of Champion’s Choice Red Roach and Champion’s Choice Etang. To this I added some maggots, pinkies some bloodworm and sweetcorn.

Small roach and rudd were the first fish to put in an appearance, but after an hour the tench arrive, and although small to begin with, they are great to catch on the pole.

In the afternoon the sun comes back out and I start to put a little corn on the spot and bait the hook with corn to try to encourage some bigger fish. Immediately, I start catching some bigger roach, followed by some nice tench. By the end of the day five carp had also out in an appearance, making for a lovely days sport.

A lovely day catching a mixed bag of fish from a lovely communal pool.
